Tierra Miguel Farm Information:
Tierra Miguel Farm is excited to welcome the JFS ASB program for another year of sustainable agriculture immersion. A lot has happened at the farm in the past year. We have recently started a farmer training program with Somali Bantu refugees. We will allow our CCOF organic certification to expire in early 2010 as we move toward a Demeter Biodynamic certification. The student garden, started last spring, has been a great learning space and food producing area for our education program. The earthen oven is very popular during community events, especially for baking sourdough bread and pizzas piled high with farm fresh veggies.
This spring we are looking forward to the influx of youthful vigor during the ASB to help us plant a food-producing windbreak. We also have plans for a small vineyard. We would also like to continue building our outdoor kitchen, adding on to the earthen oven. March is a great time of the year in Pauma Valley. The rejuvenating winter rains will have ceased, wildflowers blooming all over the farm and winter and spring crop seasons overlapping. We will be reaching the end of winter root veggies and greens while strawberries will just be ripening, so there will be plenty of planting, weeding, harvesting and CSA packing to be done. Many more projects will be identified in the coming months. There is always something that needs to be done!
