Farm Interns/Counselors at Eden Village

Eden Village Camp and the Jewish Farm School seek 2 Farm Interns/Counselors for the new Eden Village Farm. The internship begins in April and runs through October and offers a unique mix of responsibilities and learning opportunities. In the spring interns will work alongside the Farm Manager to create the 2-acre farm. In the summer interns will work as farm counselors for Eden Village Camp and in the fall, will continue to work on the farm and serve as educators for various programs.

Educational opportunities throughout the season include:

• Introduction to Permaculture
• Natural building projects
  
• Social justice training for environmental educators
• Participating in a local network of young farmers
• Jewish environmental and agricultural education
• Seed saving and food storage

Candidate will be evaluated based on the following qualities and experience:

• Enthusiasm for working the land learning new skills
• Ability to work well with others
• Experience working with children
• Familiarity with the sustainable agriculture and food justice movements

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting Farm Manager in day-to-day farm work
• Serving as educators for a variety of programs before and after camp
• Working with volunteers throughout the growing season
• Working with campers on farm and garden projects throughout the summer
• Assisting with coordinating various programs onsite including part of the 2010 Hazon ride, Shavuot and Succoth festivals, Eco Beit Midrash, and farmer skill-share retreat

Compensation:

• Farm stipend for April-June; counselor salary for the summer; educator stipend for fall programs
• Housing for duration of position
• Meals while camp and programs are in session
