Farm Manager at Eden Village Camp

Project Description

Eden Village Camp and the Jewish Farm School seek an experienced farmer to design, implement and manage a new organic and educational farm. The farm will be on 2 acres of land that has been an open field for many years.  The focus in year one will be designing educational elements into the farm, building soil fertility, producing food for the campers, staff and off-season programs, and helping to develop a long term vision for the farm.

 

Candidate will be evaluated based on the following qualities and experience:

  • Experience working on or managing another farm
  • Knowledge of how to use farm equipment
  • Experience with bed creation and building soil fertility
  • Ability to self-start and solve problems efficiently
  • Record of successfully working on and completing complex, multifaceted jobs
  • Ability to prioritize tasks while keeping an eye on a larger vision
  • Ability to thrive in a new, trailblazing position
  • Passion for "earth-care" as well as "people care" and "resource share"
  • Experience supervising other employees
  • Easy to work with


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop farm design and crop plan
  • Develop and maintain farm budget
  • Purchase all supplies and equipment for the farm
  • Implement a productive organic farm
  • Uphold the missions of Eden Village Camp and the Jewish Farm School
  • Teach and enforce safety regulations
  • Maintain contact with supervisor
  • Liaise with farm educator, kitchen and supervisor
  • Work on farm design and crop plan beginning mid-winter
  • Work on-site from March through October


Compensation:

  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • Housing for duration of position
  • Meals while camp and programs are in session
