May 22: Animal Care and Orienteering Skills

Join us in welcoming our bees back to our farm! Our May 22nd session will introduce students to the beautiful and useful 0, 2, and 6 legged members of our community: bees, chickens, and worms, as we explore Jewish perspectives on animal care, and how our animals contribute to the health of our farm! We'll also help prepare lodging for our newest friends, the goats, who will arrive the next day. Out in the forest, we'll explore some basic orienteering practices, learning how to tell the time and directions by the sun, and making a map of our adventure. We'll conclude with a parade in the calendar garden for Rosh Chodesh Sivan!

Thur May 31 to Fri Jun 1: Spring Homeschool Overnight & First Fruits Festival!

Jewish Farm School is delighted to offer our 2012 Spring Homeschool Overnight and First Fruits Festival! Harvest wheat to bake Challah in an earth oven! Milk goats and learn the ancient craft of cheesemaking! Build a parent proof composting bin! Map your family's history, and navigate future possibilities! Families will sleep in furnished bunks with full bathrooms, and together we'll prepare and eat 3 scrumptious kosher organic meals from our farm! Individual students are also welcome to attend without parents, and will be part of their own tribe! About Farm & Forest

Whether planting trees, baking bread in an earth oven, sharing Jewish tales and midrashim around the fire, or packing Tzedakah boxes of homegrown produce for donation to a local food bank, students put ancient agricultural traditions into practice while participating in a vibrant earth based community.

We learn about soil, seeds, compost, insects, herbs, and orchards, in our fields, our kitchen, and in our tradition, and through hands on growing and cooking projects. Our goats, bees, and chickens provide for our needs while teaching us about animal care and ethics. In the woods, we practice our navigation and safety skills, while learning to build primitive shelters, track animals, identify wild edibles, and make fire through friction. Art projects include printmaking, plant sketching, making costumes and paper mache shofars, and tons more!
