Avodat Hasadeh (Work of the Field)
Bring the farm to life with your own hands! Join our farm staff for hands-on volunteer projects such as preparing planting beds, planting seed and harvesting produce.
B'nai Mitzvah Day
Are you or a member of your family celebrating an upcoming bar or bat mitzvah? Join in exploring this ancient rite of passage through the lens of earth-based Torah and meaningful agricultural service-learning projects.
Natural Building
Learn to build functional and beautiful furniture and working ovens with the use of earth materials such as straw, sand and clay. All learning is project based and can be applied on your own land.
Wild Fermentation
The art and science of traditionally fermented foods is making a come back. Learn how to make your own naturally fermented and very healthy delectibles such as sauerkraut, pickles and kombucha.
Herbal Medicine
Join us for an introduction to the medicinal herbs growing in our region. We will identify and gather herbs in the fields and forest, learn about their medicinal properties, then make your very own tincture or syrup to bring home.
The Magic of Composting
Did you know that you can reduce your waste and transform your food scraps into rich organic compost! We can teach you to take your backyard garden to the next level with small scale composing techniques, the the fundamentals of basic soil chemistry and the advantages and disadvantages of vermicomposting (with worms).
Beekeeping 101
Spend the day at our Farm with a certified apiarist and learn everything you need to know about keeping your own hive of backyard bees. The morning lecture will be spent learning about bees, bee anatomy, bee safety, requirements for caring for your bees year-round, supply sources, and extracting honey and comb. The afternoon will be spent outside, building a hive, introducing a package of bees to their new homes, and answering additional questions.
Container Gardening
Always wanted to have a small herb or vegetable garden but didn't think you had the light or space? Join us at the farm to learn about growing in pots and containers on your windowsill or porch! Learn what types of plants do best in containers, in low light conditions, and with little watering.
Backyard Chickens
Want to keep a small flock of laying hens to produce your very own fresh eggs? Interested in raising meat birds? Spend an afternoon with us and learn how to keep chickens in your own backyard. We will discuss coop building, raising chicks, keeping laying hens and meat birds, and general chicken information such as breed differences, where and how to buy your birds, food requirements, chicken anatomy, and more!
Organic Gardening 101
Think you have a black thumb? Intimidated to start a garden because of everything you don’t know? In this full-day course, you will learn the basics of setting up a small garden and growing your own vegetables and/or flowers. We’ll also discuss soil types, pH requirements, watering, fertilizers, and composting techniques.
HaMotzi Lechem Min Ha’aretz: Bread Baking
So you have heard of baking from scratch? We start the bread baking process from its very roots. In this workshop you will thresh, winnow and grind wheat grown on our own farm and then use it to make delicious bread.
This workshop is available from July through October.
Farm to Table
There is nothing like cooking a meal from food you just pulled from the earth with your own hands. Learn about the growing habits and cultural history of different vegetables, fruits and legumes that you get to harvest yourself, then travel just a few hundred feet to cook a delicious farm fresh meal. It’s an experience worth eating!
Jewish Food Justice
Did you know that the tradition of Tzedekah has its roots in four biblical agricultural laws that required farmers to share their harvest with those in need? In this workshop you will learn about these inspiring traditions and then put them to practice by harvesting food on our farm for donation to a local food pantry.
